The Catalyst Science Discovery Centre is a family attraction created to inform visitors about chemistry in an exciting way that is accessible to all.
Located in Widnes, near the Runcorn bridge, the museum contains over a 100 interactive exhibits spread over 3 galleries that show how chemistry interacts with our everyday lives. The three galleries are Scientrific, Birth of an Industry and World of Opportunities. In Scientrific the exhibits explain how chemicals are made and used and features an under 5’s area called Mini Molecules. The Birth of an Industry gallery explores the history of chemistry right back to ancient times and up to more recent advancements using a variety of media including quizzes and films. Finally the World of Opportunities gallery is all about having a career in chemistry.
There is also the Catalytic Discovery Lab to visit which allows visitors to have a go at some chemical experiments, the Alchemy Theatre shows an interactive film presentation with parts in 3D and voting to alter the course of the story and you can also go up to the rooftop observatory in a glass lift to enjoy some great views over the surrounding area. Weekend workshops for a small additional charge.
