Belvoir Castle is a Grade I listed castle-like stately home sited on top of a steep-sided hill overlooking the vale of Belvoir.
Owned by the Duke and Duchess of Rutland there has been a castle on this site since about the 12th century with the current castle being constructed around 1800. There are many rooms to view including the State Dining room, the Elizabeth saloon, the guard room, the Regents Gallery, the old kitchen and bakery and the nursery and school room. The rooms are normally viewed by a guided tour, but on busy days a free-flow system may be in operation. On display throughout the castle are paintings by world-renowned artists plus collections of antique furniture, tapestries, sculptures, porcelain and silks.
The valley gardens form a natural amphitheatre, carved out by glaciers and are fed with fresh water springs. Sections of the gardens include a woodland path leading to the Duchess's Gardens, the secret garden, a rustic summer house and a Japanese garden.
