Hardwick Hall consists of New Hardwick Hall, one of the finest Elizabethan houses in Britain, Old Hardwick Hall, the remains of the previous hall, plus gardens and parkland between Mansfield and Chesterfield.

Hardwick Hall was originally commissioned by Elizabeth Shrewsbury also known as Bess of Hardwick and friend of Elizabeth I and one of the richest women of her era. Things to see in the New Hall are the Virtue and Vice exhibit, portraits, Elizabethan architecture and collections of Elizabethan embroidery and tapestries. Hardwick old Hall (managed by English Heritage) has no roof but has four floors you can explore and features two exhibitions, one about Bess and one about Elizabethan architecture plus there is some original Elizabethan plasterwork to see.

The walled gardens are laid out in Elizabethan style and divided into 4 courtyards and include vegetable and herb gardens, orchards and lawns. There are talks about the vegetable and herb gardens held every Wednesday. The 2500 acres of parkland includes wetland, grassland, historic ponds and woodland. Day and season tickets available for fishing in the parkland.
