Raby Castle is a castle dating from the 1300’s with a 200 acre deer park and walled gardens, located in County Durham near Staindrop.
Things to see in the castle include the medieval kitchen, the Barons Hall, the Octagon Drawing Room, the 18th Century entrance Hall with Gothic vaulting, the Chapel, the servants’ hall and a servant’s bedroom. There are also extensive collections of art on display including paintings by artists such as Van Dyck, Reynolds and Munnings. On some days the castle is only viewable via guided tours.
The formal gardens include 18th century themed gardens, yew hedges, a kitchen garden, an ornamental pond, heather and conifer gardens and a rose garden. There is also a collection of 18th century carriages to view and a woodland adventure playground for children.
