Yorkshire Museum and gardens is a local history museum surrounded by botanical gardens in York city centre in North Yorkshire.

Set over three floors the museum houses a number of galleries devoted to periods in York's history including Roman York and Medieval York as well as natural-history exhibits with fossils, skeletons and mounted creatures. There is also audio-visual presentation in a small theatre telling an abridged version of the history of York. The top floor has a temporary exhibit space, a reading room and a historic library containing a treasure trove of old reference books (only open to the public on selected days). The ten-acres of botanical gardens surround the museum and run alongside the river Ouse. They have a geocaching site and a number of interesting historic buildings including the half timbered medieval hospitum and the ruins of a Roman fortress and an 11th century Abbey.
