Dewstow Gardens and Grottoes is a fascinating selection of gardens that had been hidden for over 50 years until recently re-discovered and renovated.

Located between Chepstow and Newport the gardens consist of overground rock and water gardens plus a labyrinth of underground grottoes and tunnels featuring more water gardens, ornamental pools and ferneries.

The gardens were originally created in 1893 by Mr Henry Roger Keane Oakley who had an interest in ferns and tropical plants, but subsequently lost and covered over with soil. Largely in good condition when unearthed they are now available to view and are probably the only gardens like them in existence.

  • The Cabin coffee shop serves hot and cold drinks and light meals.
