Etruria Industrial Museum

Etruria Industrial Museum is home to Jesse Shirley's 1857 Bone and Flint Mill, the only operational steam-powered potter's mill remaining in the world. Located at the historic junction of the Trent & Mersey and Caldon Canals, this Scheduled Ancient Monument offers a unique window into the Victorian industrial heart of the Potteries.

• The Mill in Steam: On special "Steaming Weekends," the 1903 coal-fired boiler powers "Princess," a 19th-century rotative beam engine that drives the original grinding pans used for pottery materials.
• The Site: Visitors can explore the working blacksmith's forge, the canal warehouse, and the summit lock of the Trent & Mersey—Staffordshire’s only staircase lock.
• Visitor Facilities: The site features a canal-side tea room, gift shop, and visitor centre with views over the historic Etruria Wharf.

2026 Visiting Information: The museum and mill are typically open to the public on Fridays (10:30 AM – 3:00 PM) for self-guided or pre-booked tours. Steaming events occur periodically throughout the year (such as the Etruria Canals Festival in May and the Vintage Engine Rally in September).

Parking: Free on-site parking is available.
