Plas Newydd Country House and Gardens

Plas Newydd Country House and Gardens is a historic house with gardens alongside the Menai straight on the Isle of Anglesey.

This National Trust managed property, was redeveloped in the 18th century and is the country seat of the Marquess of Anglesey. The house interiors have been restyled to present a 1930s setting with furnishing and décor of that period. The family also had connections to the artist Rex Whistler and there is a mural by him in the dining room and an exhibition of his works. There is also an exhibition at the house about the cavalry regiment at the Battle of Waterloo, which one of the Marquesses commanded.

The 169 acres of woodland and parkland belonging to the estate includes 40 acres of formal gardens. Amongst the garden areas are a spring garden, the Australasian arboretum, a croquet lawn, camellia dell, an Italianate-style summer terrace, a rhododendron garden and a woodland walk beside the Menai strait. There is also a children's adventure playground in the Dairy wood, plus a tree house, a bird hide and a Frisbee golf course (charge applies).
