Rievaulx Terrace is a lawned terrace with two temples and views over Rievaulx Abbey in the Ryedale valley near Helmsley in the North York Moors National Park.
The terrace was created in the 1700's by the then owner of the adjoining Helmsley estate and features two small temples at either end of the terrace. The temples are entitled the Tuscan temple and the Ionic temple and feature ornate wall paintings and plasterwork. Visitors can join one of the free daily guided tours to see the interiors.
The elevated position gives excellent views over the surrounding area including the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey in the Ryedale valley below the terrace. The hillside also features semi-ancient wooded areas, wildflower meadows and lots of wildlife.
