The Attenborough Nature Centre is the visitor centre at the heart of the Attenborough Nature Reserve which is located between Nottingham and Derby.
The reserve was created in 1966 from flooded disused gravel pits and covers an area of 145 hectares. The flooded pits have created a series of ponds with islands plus some drier areas of grassland and woodlands and is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Home to many native species of wildlife including amphibians, invertebrates and fish, but best known for the variety of birds that visit here and two public hides are provided for visitors to bird watch.
The centre contains a shop, the cafe, meeting rooms, educational facilities and an exhibit with information and interactive features about the what's at the reserve and it's history. Guided walks, run by Beeston wildlife group, are held one Saturday a month and anyone is welcome to tag along.
