Big Pit National Coal Museum is a coal mine with museum, historical buildings and mine tour in Blaenavon near Pontypool in South Wales.

Set in a real modern coal mine, this attraction has something to entertain all ages. There are the historic colliery buildings including an Engine house, Fan House, explosives building, the Mortar mill, the stockyard and the blacksmiths yard, plus the pithead baths contains four galleries with exhibitions telling the history of coal mining in Wales with artefacts, costumes and informational displays.

Another part of the attraction is the Mining galleries. Built into the side of a hill, the galleries house three display areas recreating scenes from underground mine workings. The Mining galleries experience begins with a short film after which visitors will progress through the display areas which demonstrate the various modern mining methods and equipment.

Lastly there is an underground tour, where visitors get to go 300 feet underground guided by a real miner. The guide will provide explanations and commentary during the 50-minute walking tour around the underground mine areas.
