Birkenhead Priory is the remains of a historic Benedictine monastery on a site along with other religious buildings in Birkenhead, Merseyside.
Located next to the river Mersey, the site contains a number of historic religious buildings.
The oldest is the remains of the priory which was founded in 1150 and it's associated chapter house which has since been consecrated as an Anglican church and is now used for services.
There is also the tower and spire (called St. Mary's Tower) which is all that remains of Birkenhead's first parish church. The 101 steps of this can be climbed to gain access to the top of the tower for great views over the river and surrounding area.
There is also a Museum with an exhibition about the history of the site.
