Townend is a 400 year old traditional farmhouse in the Troutbeck Valley, in Cumbria in the Lake District.
Occupied by the same family, the Brownes, the farmhouse is constructed with traditional Lake District stone and slate. Inside the farmhouse visitors will see lots of hand-carved furniture, with most of it being made by one of the family members, a collection of around 1500 books including 45 one-of-a-kind items and historic domestic equipment and tools.
Guided tours of the house occur at 11am and 12 noon and visitors also get the chance to have a go at rag rug making. There is also a cottage garden to see planted with historic plant and fruit tree varieties.
