Located in Lichfield city centre on Market square, the Samuel Johnson Birthplace museum and bookshop is set in the town house in which Samuel Johnson was born in 1709.

Samuel Johnson famously wrote the first English Dictionary, which was published in 1755 and was also a literary critic and wrote himself. The museum, which has been open since 1907, features staged rooms, displays and audio-visual media which relate the story of Samuel Johnson's life and works. Guided tours available for a fee by prior arrangement.
