Sarehole Mill is a Grade II listed water mill built around 1750 and one of only two working water mills in Birmingham.

Located near Hall Green the things to see include the working mill (in action most days), a Victorian bakehouse, the J.R.R. Tolkein exhibition and the attractive mill pond with platform for pond-dipping.

The mill has a connection to J.R.R. Tolkien due to him living nearby during part of his childhood and using the surrounding area for inspiration for the Shire. Although surrounded by Birmingham suburbs the mill pond maintains a rural atmosphere and attracts a wide variety of wild life. The mill also produces it's own flour for sale and there are traditional bread baking demonstrations on event days.

  • Free on the first Sunday of the month.

  • Sarehole Mill cafe serving light refreshments.
